Yacht Master Offshore Power

The Yacht Master Offshore Power course is designed to provide students with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to command a power yacht up to 24 meters in length, up to 150 nautical miles from a safe harbor. This course is ideal for experienced powerboat operators who seek formal certification and wish to expand their operational range.

Course Objectives

  • Master offshore navigation and pilotage.
  • Develop advanced powerboat handling skills.
  • Understand meteorology and its impact on offshore operations.
  • Learn advanced safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Gain practical experience through extensive on-water training.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • VHF Radio Operator Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum sea time: 50 days, 5 days as skipper, 2,500 miles, including at least 5 passages over 60 miles (2 overnight and 2 as skipper).

Course Duration

  • Theory: 40 hours (classroom and online learning).
  • Practical: 5 days on-water training.

  1. Advanced Navigation and Chart Work
    • Offshore navigation and pilotage.
    • Use of electronic navigation aids (GPS, radar, AIS).
    • Tidal calculations and advanced route planning.
    • Passage planning and execution for offshore voyages.
  2. Meteorology
    • In-depth weather forecasting and interpretation.
    • Understanding weather systems, fronts, and pressure systems.
    • Practical use of meteorological data for passage planning.
  3. Seamanship
    • Advanced powerboat handling techniques.
    • Engine management and troubleshooting.
    • Anchoring, mooring, and docking in various conditions.
    • Heavy weather handling and survival techniques.
  4. Safety and Emergency Procedures
    • Comprehensive safety equipment knowledge.
    • Advanced man overboard recovery techniques.
    • Firefighting, flood control, and damage repair.
    • Search and rescue operations and protocols.
  5. Regulations and Responsibilities
    • International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
    • Understanding maritime laws and regulations.
    • Responsibilities and duties of an offshore yacht master.
  6. Practical On-Water Training
    • Real-world navigation exercises.
    • Advanced boat handling under power.
    • Night operations and long-distance passage exercises.
    • Emergency drills and safety procedures.

Assessment

  • Theory Exam: Written exam covering advanced navigation, meteorology, seamanship, and regulations.
  • Practical Exam: On-water assessment of powerboat handling, navigation, and emergency procedures.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and exams, students will receive the ICT International Captain Training Academy Yacht Master Offshore Power certification, recognized internationally.
